Each year the Pro Second Amendment Committee hosts and supports students K-12 to write an essay generally providing their thought as to where America would be today if the Founding Fathers had not demanded that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" be a significant part of the "Bill of Rights."
Awards are given to the winners in each grade class for first, second and third places. We have seen many that write every year, year after year and with each year their understanding grows much stronger about the importance of the Second Amendment to the "Bill of Rights" of the Constitution.
For Elementary and Middle School, the theme is:
Who is your favorite U.S. Founding Father and why?
For High School please choose one theme:
Based on the premises of the 2nd Amendment, why do people own guns?
According to the Preamble, why was the writing of the Constitution necessary?
Pick a country that has banned guns and tell how it has helped or hindered that society?
The deadline to submit essays has been extended to March 8, 2010. Email or postmark by then.
Essays may be submitted by e-mail to Natnook01@aol.com or mailed to

For reference, HS students may want to check out from the library or purchase the following books:
Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, Constitutional Chaos: What Happens When the Government Breaks Its Own Laws (Thomas Nelson, 2006).
Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, The Constitution in Exile (Thomas Nelson, 2007).
One book is about 200 pages and the other about 250 pages; but they are both good books and readily available.
The winning essays for 2009 are reprinted in the 05-09 issue of Lexington & Concord.
